Corners

Years have passed
I awaken and the world is gone
My place is vacant
I look around but all the faces stare through me
I am an obstacle
Someone's reason for staying
Another's for leaving

I try to return from the darkness
The silent movies playing
Alone in an empty theatre
Seeing the past in vivid images
As they slip further into the distance
Someone's reason for staying
Another's for leaving

My body aches
I arch myself into the present
Pushing away the spinner's weave
Loosing the silver cord
Screaming that I am here
Someone's reason for staying
Another's for leaving

Eight years out
Into everyone's future
But I am just beginning
A step behind and fading
I must run among the walking
Someone's reason for staying
Another's for leaving

I come to her
I try to pull myself closer
But she knows the past
Knows her present with the silence
And I am the corner
Someone's reason for staying
Another's for leaving
