As We Pass

Looking into the reflection of forever
Deep in the calm pools of eternity
I turn over a new leaf
And trace the silver lining
Knowing
I am only here for a short time
And my marks
Like etchings on the curve
Of an hourglass
Will never change the course
But only send prismatic shafts
Through the moments
Passing by
Into the dust of the beaten earth
Worn thin by the feet of millions
Marching
And now dancing
In the sweltering explosion
Of rhythm
Caught between the beat
And the stamping of feet
As I turn
One to another
And make my mark
Softly at first
Then deeper
Taking my time
Sending the shivers of the stroke
Surging into the cool liquid thoughts
Of another
Flowing into the same pool
Drinking from the same fountain
Rising in the same burning passion
And floating into the clasp
Of a distant star

The End?                    The Storm
